The North Queensland Games, is now in its 39th year and will be held in Cairns featuring over 20 sports and welcoming athletes of all ages.
An official Opening Ceremony commencing on Friday 3rd of May and finally the following night will see the event bring North Queensland locals together in celebration of our active sporting community.
North Queensland Sports Foundation Chair and Townsville City Council, Councillor Maurie Soars stated the 2020 North Queensland Games has injected both economic and social benefits to the Townsville community.
These Games are about more than just sport, with approximately 2,000 participants descending to the City of Townsville during the 2020 North Queensland Games, Townsville has experienced a significant economic injection to the tune of around $3 million.
Grassroots sports and events like the North Queensland Games also offer a unique and important pathway for local athletes, providing a foundation for our local kids to see themselves becoming our nation’s future Olympians and sporting heroes.
