Para Powerlifting is the ultimate test of upper body strength. Athletes are given three attempts, and the winner is the athlete who lifts the highest number of kilograms on a loaded barbell. Bench press is currently the only Para Powerlifting discipline contested at the Paralympic Games, with 10 weight divisions for male and female athletes, respectively. Competitors are required to lower the bar to their chest, hold it motionless, and then press it evenly upwards to arm’s length with locked elbows.

This competition is a novice Para Powerlifting event hosted by Para Powerlifting Australia, created to give athletes the chance to gain competition experience in a supportive environment.
No previous competition experience is required — Being a development event there will be no weigh in or specific weight categories or classification requirements.
