After receiving over 80 entries and nearly 400 votes across 3 weeks, the drawing of Pedro the Playtpus, from the mind of 11-year old Georgia from Marian has won the popular vote in the North Queensland Sports Foundation’s contest to design the next mascot for the 2026 North Queensland Games.
Run and promoted in conjunction with Mount Pleasant Centre in Mackay, Georgia and Pedro won $500 cash from the Sports Foundation, along with a merchandise pack.
Georgia was presented her hard-earned cash by NQSF CEO Alexander Fisher, with Mackay Regional Council’s Cr. Ash-Lee Johnson and State MP for Mackay Nigel Dalton Present
Pedro will now be given a slight touch up by some designers, and then used in the advertising and marketing campaign over the next 150 days.
2 Runners up, Xavier with Casey the Crocodile and Eva with Connor the Cockatoo, both won merchandise packs worth $200 each.
