FRANK DE BATTISTA

Frank joined Special Olympics in 2014.

Frank works at PCYC and participates in tenpin bowling and table tennis; he has been selected for Special Olympics National Games in tenpin bowling as table tennis is not offered at Nationals. Frank lives in a unit and receives support to live his best life! Frank’s goal in life is to get his driver’s licence.

What event will you be participating at the NQ Games?

Bocce, tenpin bowling, table tennis and basketball.

Have you ever competed in an NQ Games before?

Yes, in Mackay 2018.

If so, what’s your favourite memory/experience of the sport?

Getting a mainstream medal.

How important is it for you to have local competition like this event?

Not having to pay for flights saves me a lot of money.

What’s your best piece of advice for athletes in your sport?

Train hard.

Who has inspired you the most in your sport?

My tenpin coach.

What part of North Queensland are you from?

Mackay.

What’s your favourite thing to do in Townsville?

Watch the Cowboys.

How did you start/get into this sport?

My mum found out about Special Olympics and it started from there.

How long have you been playing/competing in this sport?

7.5 years basketball and tenpin bowling, 4.5 years table tennis and new to bocce.

What are your sporting career goals?

I have been selected for Nationals but it would be great to go to World Games too.

Are you competing in a few sports at the games? If so, what are they and how will you balance/manage this commitment?

Our coach helps us out and makes sure that we will get there on time; I am also competing in the tenpin bowling that isn’t Special Olympics.

The NQ games are a great event to meet and socialise with other athletes, have you made new friends through sport?

I have met so many great people.
